My name is Susan and I am the Owls and Orchids blogger.
Why Owls and Orchids?
The simple truth is that I find Owls to be magical and majestic, mysterious and enthralling. I am awed by their grace, their ability to swivel their head through 360 degrees never missing anything. I find their hearing amazing and the fact that they can soar through the night on soundless wings, unseen, unheard until they catch their prey is spine tingling. They have been associated with wisdom because of their ‘all seeing ability’ and always project, for me, a nobility and sense of ‘apartness’ which I find intriguing.
Orchids are, to me, so easy to understand. They are the most exotic, beautifully balanced and incredibly scentual blooms I have ever seen. They are seen in so many shapes, sizes, formations and found in so many unusual places, from forest floors, almost under rocks to the upper reaches of tall trees, from the depths of jungles and rainforests to the house next door. Better yet, in my own garden where I have a small collection.
How do they relate to my blog and what I write about? They can and will allow me to write about almost anything, from the magical, mystical and esoteric to the mundane and everyday we all see and hear. They allow me to cross the barriers of beauty and grace to the gruesome and gross. In short they allow me to capture life, from my perspective and perhaps joining with the wisdom of others also.
I am also beginning to explore photography because memories need to be captured and a camera is one of the best keepsakes to memory I know. I will travel extensively when the time is right, “To explore strange new worlds, new civilisations and boldly go” where I have never been before. So my camera techniques need honing.
How will I do all this? The Universe will provide.
I love helping others, and believe friendship is really underrated – it’s something we all need and there are some incredibly lonely people out there. I know – I am one. Let’s help them…. so here’s my thoughts on what’s happening in the here and now, until I can get to the then and after.
I’m not sure how I found you, but when I did, I followed and tabbed you to follow. My mothers (adoptive) favorite thing is Owls. They remind her of my father who died in 2006. They were best friends and soul mates and the pain was hard and lasted long.
Orchids are also another favorite thing of hers – her passion is to plotter in the garden!

Thanks Miss Lou,
It’s been a long night awake and I’ve been distracted by the whales going past. I’ve been distracted watching whales since then and getting my compute to behave. Must be tired fingers. I’ve loved owls since I was a toddler in England and its grown since then. There’s nothing I like more than seeing or hearing owls around me at night – it’s just magical.
The orchids simply love it here. I think it’s the cooler air. We’ve had a bumper crop of beautiful flowers – really hue ones so I’m looking forward to seer what the rest do.I’ll probably end up doing a blog about them soon….. Look forward to talking again soon. Susan

Hi Susan, thank you for your support yesterday. I had pushed a bit too far and not fully understood the situation. Besides that, you had sneaked under my radar. I thought I had been to your site and was pleasantly surprised when I did a double check yesterday. Very nice, thank you.
I might add a little story…many years ago I came to a friends home one night, and there sitting on a post next to his home was the most beautiful owl, (and biggest I had ever seen, must have been over 2 feet from head to tail). I think it was a Powerful Owl, but it’s back was from golds and browns to almost black. But the main thing was that it didn’t move, and we walked up to it (to about 6 feet away), and the incredible energy and majesty that was coming from this beautiful bird. It was then that I realised that it was dying (and that was why we got so close to it) which almost brought me to tears. By morning it had died. The loss of something so beautiful, and a part of this world, seemed to reduce the world in some way, but glorified it in it’s passing. It was a powerful thing to witness.
I look forward to seeing more of your blog and future posts. Namaste

I would have loved to be able to be so close to a Powerful Owl – I got the YES when I asked about it so ‘;m sure that’s what it was. Sad as it was that it was dying, it was a tremendous gift to see it. I’ve had one in the trees but I haven’t wanted to disturb them… the day will come.
Blessings to you….. Susan x

Yes, I love them. From a child they have been around me and I find their aloofness and silence to be majestic. I find it very comforting to hear them in the night, almost like a sentinel watching over all.
I love them all too.
