“It is the final person we see reflected in our eyes that really matters; we wonder who is she and why is she here? To find ourselves truly, it is the goal we have all set for ourselves.”   ― Michelle Shen

Have you ever stopped to wonder how different you seem to each person you meet? Each of us has so many roles to fulfill each day, husband, wife, brother, sister, son, daughter, friend and so on. Each of the people we meet usually only see a part of us. Very few look to see the person inside, the real you, full of complexity, love.fear, hopes and dreams. Yet this is only a small part of who we are.

It has been said that is it only a true friend who can get to see who we really are because they have no agenda other than being a friend. To find someone like that is a treasure indeed, since this world we  live in appears to feed on the goodness we give freely, whilst willing to offer little if anything in return. Our “Universal bank account” of gratitude, love and understanding, can be depleted easily if we fail to take care of our daily deposits of generosity from others as well as from ourselves. We can do more for ourselves with this than anyone, yet gratitude, thankfulness from another has a glow to  it which is hard to manufacture and therefore makes it, in essence pure.

Our Inner Child is often under ‘attack’ every day by the demands to be realistic, to be adult and see the world as it really is.  But how is the world really seen? We each have our own perceptions based on our own experiences, If life has been good, and we are filled with love and joy and happiness then we will see the world as a wondrous joyous place.

How wonderful to be surrounded by the glories of nature, the fairies and sprites, the woodland folk. Yet we are not all fortunate to be able to find our fairyland hideaway and live a life of happiness and joy.  Life simply doesn’t allow us to have that without some of the downpour to balance it out. Life is all about balance. What is the old saying we are all taught as children… “Into every life a little rain must fall”.  It is so true, sometimes we have a pleasant shower, I adore the smell of the rain on freshly mown grass!  At others we have a mighty deluge which can wash away so much and leave us wondering “what next”? We have only to think about our most recent flooding to understand that! What it all comes to is, “That’s Life”.

I always found the movie “The Picture of Dorian Gray” to have so many levels in it to think about.  Consider what it must be like to want to remain young so much that you would sell your soul to the devil. I found if horrifying that his portrait aged so grotesquely whilst he remained so ‘beautiful’. Yet the truth was that the grossness of the image was a mere reflection of the man himself and only in becoming himself once more did the balance between the two be achieved again. Of course, both could exist in that event, the portrait reflected the man he had been, the one visible to the world.  The dark inner core was sent back into the abyss. At least that was how I interpreted the story.

Yet it goes to illustrate that we are not always seen as we really are.  How many times must we put on a brave face to manage to make it through the day? How often are we pushed into a role to make others feel better? Are we being true to ourselves? I fear not.  We lose a part of ourselves each time we are asked to compromise who we really are.  Does the mirror reflect truly? At times we are all guilty of perpetuating the ‘dream’.

In the disturbing film “What dreams may come”, Robin Williams freely risks his life is ‘heaven’ to try to save his wife who is lost in ‘purgatory’ for taking her life after being unable to live with the knowledge that she had lost all he family. I found it deeply moving and thought-provoking. After a mammoth struggle he wins and she is rescued so that the whole family are together again. Yet for me it also meant that as the movie progressed he, Robin Williams, had to learn to see his family as they really were. The preconceived ideas he had held onto had to be shattered before his ‘life’ could be reclaimed.

At some point in time we all must face the fact that we are just fine the way we are, including our imperfections too. That always reminds me of what Rob Roy said to his wife “You’re so fine to me”. If we could all only remember that simple phrase, “You’re so fine to me”, and remember that we are a spirit having a human incarnation. We are here to learn and sometimes the lessons are painful. Sometimes we have to face ourselves as we really are, imperfect though that may be. We are still beautiful and always will be since we can only be as good as we can be, no more, no less. If anyone wants more than that it is they who need help, not us.

“The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a Woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.”     ― Audrey Hepburn

We are all beautiful, we simply need the find the right reflection. We are so filled with beauty that a part of that beauty will be reflected whenever we look into another persons eyes, window or mirror. We simply have to trust what we see and believe. Reflections are simply that, images of what is in front of us. Don’t let anyone else destroy your image.

“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”   Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

The beauty of the lotus flower, to me, is the reflection of the beauty of the soul.

I see you, beautiful people, “You are so fine to me”!
