Sunrise Sunset

Sunrise, Molten Gold

It’s beaten me to it once more

Golden  bright

It’s light so strong it makes your eyes water

Over the placid blue waters

Neither wave nor a ripple to mar the blue

Casting glimmering flights of molten gold

Between the ripples over the water

As though the light itself was alive

The start of another day

Yet the Sunset heralded the end of yesterday

And I wonder where the night went

Why did it flee so quickly

Like velvet across bare skin

Soft and smooth as it slides free

Brings no release from this waking prison

Yes I am still here for the pain I ride

Gives me have no measure of illusion to hide my face

As I hide it from the accusing light of the sun

Boring deep inside this pulsing mass I call a brain

Tentacles of pain surviving any prodding

Like a living thing it takes its nourishment

From the agony inflicted in its wake

From this pallid existence

Between moments of peaceful calm

Hard fought with acceptance and calm

Each moment a drop of relief

So small it could be overlooked

Yet there it is

From knowing I have the secret

The Secret

Peace, calm, acceptance, mindfulness

The tools

I now have to overcome this

Called Pain

Sunset 23 June. 10 (Copy)                                    Rosy hued skies on dusk waiting for the moonrise

As I sat in

Peaceful contemplation

Through the palm tree

Through the palm tree

Wrapped in

A cocoon of soft Alpaca

In favourite shades

Of purples and mauves

In  companionable anticipation

For the first sign

Of a rose coloured moon

I realised

In delighted surprise

The feeling of total

The rosy glow appears

The rosy glow appears

Contemplative meditation

Unexpected and uplifting

The first sight of rosy hue

Filled my heart on cue

With the beauty of Mother Nature

As the Goddess Selene

Rose higher in the night sky

Bathing the ocean in

Dressed in Rose Gold, Selene, Moon Goddess

Dressed in Rose Gold, Selene, Moon Goddess

Molten gold

Her magic plain for all

To behold.

Glorious sunset over the Mediterranean.

Golden moonrise

“The moon is a loyal companion.
It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.
Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.”
― Tahereh Mafi, Shatter Me

I hope you enjoy my moon odyssey as much as I.

Blessed be.  Susan x

I’ve been missing for a couple of days with the usual doctor to doctor trek, tests and more tests and waiting interminably for results. Ended up with the expected kinked neck and back plus a whopper of a migraine from the sun. Strange we had those hot days when I had to be trundling around in a car.

Well such is life at the moment. Despite having to squint out of one eye, the pain in the other was too much, and my internal organs were having the own mini revolution, I managed to prepare a couple of posts ahead of time to make up for my possible lack of impetus at the end of the day.

I thought it worked well until today when I felt less than  chipper. In fact I felt flatter than a badly flipped pancake. I have dragged myself around wearing dark sunglasses, cracking my eyes open only enough to stop myself from walking into everything.  In the beautiful darkness of out Harvest Moon I ventured out long enough to grab a few pictures and do a moon filled post, mainly because I love the colours of the moon here. Selfish I know.

So, back with the sunnies in my bedroom (the glare from the computer) and I had my blog done….. what happened next was tragic. Like most electrical equipment it had a sudden attack of the “let’s have some fun with her.” the screen blinked and I had an empty screen. No draft saved (odd) and nary a full stop in sight.

So you have my explanation for no real blog…. a poem I did a little while ago which suits my mood at present and I’m taking my eyeballs, which feel as though someone has pierced them with a flaming brand, to bed with a cold compress. The real blog will follow next week.

Have an amazing weekend…..I’m keeping my eyes closed unless the sun eclipses over me.

In the meantime, here is a photo from the last full moon…..

Inside the room

As the waves pound

Onto the shore

Finding their doom

Water moving silently

Towards the shore

Slowly building to rolling peaksRolling Ocean waves 3 July 29 (Copy)

Before foaming

Rolling forward

Breaking along the beach

The ocean follows its path

Back and forth

To the eternal pull

Of something even mightier than itselfDSCN3500 (Copy)

What I hear you ask

Why none other than

The glorious moon

Shining forth her delightful bloom

Mysterious and enchanting

Ocean breaking moonbeams

Moon slicing ocean waves

Cohabiting in spiritual splendour

Majestic, wild and free.

Glorious sunset over the Mediterranean.

Golden sunset over the ocean

“The sea is emotion incarnate. It loves, hates, and weeps. It defies all attempts to capture it with words and rejects all shackles. No matter what you say about it, there is always that which you can’t.”
Christopher Paolini, Eragon

“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.”
Deng Ming-Dao, Everyday Tao: Living with Balance and Harmony

Oh, Man in the Moon

“Oh, man in the moon, send an evening star to wink at my dreary eyes, and I shall make a wish for a peaceful world that spins with no more lies.

Oh, man in the moon, send the night’s cool breeze to lull my leery heart, and I shall cast my fears to the wind with ease, and watch them all depart.

Oh, man in the moon, send the sandman’s dust to rest my weary soul, and I shall slumber in happy dreams until the morning bells do toll.”
Richelle E. Goodrich

There is something about the full moon which polarises people, they either believe in her magic or they do not.  Looking up at her hanging there, full and round, casting her light on the waters below, how could anyone deny she has a beauty and power not seen or felt anywhere else?  From time immemorial there have been stories of the moon being worshiped and sacrifices made to appease her. Strangely enough we do not appear to be so very different today in many ways.

I always feel disappointed if the evening of the full moon is overcast and dreary. I still feel her energy shining there in the night sky, and make my wish (or cast my spell) for the coming month. I have dozens for photos of the full moon – and as many of sunrise. There is great energy at those two times of the day, sunset and sunrise, or should I say moon rise and sunrise.

It is the time to charge up your crystals, invoke the power of the moon and bless the coming energy of the coming month. Yet, even if you don’t believe in the moons power, it cannot be denied that it is a time of heightened emotions. The tales of “full moon madness” are all too true. People are affected by her power in the sky and there are more accidents, murders, the basest of human nature, seen on the nights of a full moon than at any other time of the month. Just ask the staff at the emergency rooms. Some of my strangest memories of my time in the police department occurred during the full moons. Stories which would be hard to believe.

The magic of the moon is used to great effect in movies. One such movies was “The Gift” with Cate Blanchet and Greg Kinnear. She had ‘the gift’, in today’s vocabulary she was psychic, could read the tarot cards and had premonitions. If you haven’t seen it, do so, it is well worth the trouble.  Another is simply called “Premonition” with Sandra Bullock and Julian McMahon. Slightly different but food for thought.

There is more to this world of ours than flesh and bone, the air we breath and the physics of life. It has always amused me that psychic and physics are so similar in spelling.  What chance was there that two such dissimilar words used by scientists and laymen (and women) would be chosen and used, argued over with such passion?

If you don’t honour the moon by ritual why not choose a movie such as I suggested and let her magic weave her way around you? You might be surprised by your dreams that night.

This was the full moon over Byron Bay last month from my balcony. Mysterious and magical – for me at least.

“…I see myself at crossroads in my life, mapless, lacking bits of knowledge – then, the Moon breaks through, lights up the path before me…”
