“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
― Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches

It’s been almost two years since I really gave serious thought and enthusiasm to writing my blog. I’ve missed it. Yet, even though I missed it, I felt there were shackles holding me back. Not even holding me back, but crushing me into immobility and worst of all, silence. Whilst I will talk in later blogs about the past two years, today I’m just setting the stage and being totally honest, a rarity in many circles.

I had a rough night on Saturday night, sleepless until dawn, although I rarely speak of it.
During my wonderfully deep sleep, I had a dream. I was on a windswept beach, a house (where I lived) in the distance and the rolling waves of the ocean coming into the bay constantly. The emptiness of the beach didn’t matter, I felt so totally at peace that it was almost like an aphrodisiac. It felt almost as if it was drawing me to it. Am I meant to simply pack up and go searching for this Nirvana like place? The idea is incredibly attractive. However, the most important fact if all was the overwhelming thought;

“I CHOOSE TO BE AT PEACE.”

It seems that most of my life I’ve been searching for that simple thing – PEACE! All the “Self Help Gurus”, “Professional Development Gurus”, “Spiritual Gurus of New Age Spirituality ” had failed to help me reach that simple state – PEACE. Yet this little dream had shown me that it was there all along and the rolling waves of the ocean had rolled back the blocks preventing me from feeling amazingly at ease within myself. It cannot be found “out there “and all the guided meditations under the sun won’t get you there until you find “YOUR KEY”.

What was the “KEY?” For me it was simply “ALLOWING”.

Strange isn’t it, until you know that for the majority of my life I had struggled to control events in order to get through each day, each challenge, and each individual moment and appear to have everything “under control”. Being in control was the sole way of retaining my sanity, or so I thought. By “Allowing”, I was allowing whatever happened to simply happen and letting it flow past in the River of Life.

I also realised I had no need to try to save or change it. My Being does not require anything other than to BE. – I have no need to try to affect it in any way, other than to simply BE true to myself and allow peace to flow over and through me at all times.

A#Cup of Tea and #Peace

Orchids always peaceful.

Now I am able to release the past in truckloads. hurts from words or deeds, done or undone are flowing past in that River of Life. I can finally release the feeling of being crushed by the virulent attack by a supposedly Spiritually Advanced lady who called herself my “MENTOR” and “FRIEND” yet dumped on me without the courtesy of seeing or speaking to me. Her heart wrenching, demeaning words have been shown to be worth less than the air time it took to send me a text message on Face Book. The accusations she accepted so readily shown to be lacking in truth, honesty and respect.

That said, thanks to her words and wounds, I have plagued and tormented myself enough by what she said, trying to understand who could have said something to make her change her opinion of me when I have known her for twenty years. Known her and shared my private information with her during a psychic session which was used to rip me apart.

Yet now it’s gone. PEACE has been granted by a higher power and I am deeply grateful for that. Universal Laws have a way and means of correcting everything. She, the apparently undisputed Authority on all things Metaphysical, “HAS NO POWER OVER ME.”

“When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment?”
― Muriel Barbery, The Elegance of the Hedgehog

So, after all the hurt and pain she helped create over these past two years, I can say I am at peace. Peaceful and Content. If she should happen to see tis, or hear of it, and is able to honour her invitation – “A cup of tea at my table at any time”, then I would be delighted to accept. After all, she offered that and more several times at least.

“When I say it’s you I like, I’m talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.”  ― Fred Rogers

Know that you are always loved.

Blessings,

Susan ❤

#Realms of Forever

Gazing dreamily into the bright blue sky

Watching the powder puff clouds roll by

Catching the gaze of the hovering butterfly

Drifting lazily yet not passing by

Hovering daintily near my nose

Making my eyes cross, just so

Fragile legs just tickling softly

Lacy wings beating slowly

Making the smallest puff of air move gently

Across my star-crossed gaze

Captured in this magic

Of a moment of stolen grace

Peace and contentment supreme

As I lay in my daffodil embrace

Surrounded by nature’s beauty

The serenity I seek enfolds me

As I see myself upon my butterfly

Or into a fairy transformed

Soaring way across the meadow

Into a land of gentle spirits

Where pain and loss never enters

Loved ones are gathered around

Greetings and love forever found

Tears and sadness banished under the mound

Is this what memories are made of

Then I’ll take my share with pleasure

To share with my loved ones in full measure

Til my time comes to follow my dreams

Into the realms of forever.

I sat for a moment

From whale watching in 2011 Hervey Bay

Or so I thought

Beside me a cup of tea

Gazing quietly out to sea

Praying for a moment’s respite

From the itch which had plagued me

All through the night

The white caps rolled by

The breeze no longer a soft sigh

One splash, then two more

A bevy now closer to shore

Followed by quick blows

To left and right

As a pod of whales swam into sight

They waved and they blew

Flukes splashing a grand tune

Time slipped by as they passed from sight

Before I realised it

They had gone with the light.

My whale blessing – hours with no itch,

I feel calm and serene,

Thanks, to my beautiful whale dream.

It felt like a dream as the hours slipped by. I had no notion how long I sat and watched, mesmerised by the whales passing. They were a never-ending stream passing by…. I couldn’t have asked for more.

Blessings,  Susan x

Darkness still holds its tenuous grip on the world

The sun has not quite risen

The birds are still making their waking sounds

Their songs not quite ready to listen

Yet this early morning quiet

Is not quiet by any means

Nothing is quite what it seems

For cars now swish past

Trucks roar by speeding

And buses scream along too fast

With the motorbikes squealing never heeding

The house that they pass

Where is my soothing dawn chorus

Where is my morning silence

Gone in a heartbeat of hellish cacophony

Which lasts till the night is almost done

Hour by hour, minute by minute

All day long they thunder past

I didn’t ask, so this is my repast

No Godly presence do I find

Just painful noise ringing through my mind

Where thought is shattered

By this ungodly clatter

And I must wait for a few hours of peace

To hear the sound of the ocean’s beat

To let my mind free to roam a while

Before the torment begins its roaring mile.

If I could wish for just one thing….. well maybe one or two

I’d wish for a farm in some quiet pasture

Where I could heal in peace for a lifetime or two.

“Everything is connected through the universal  flow of consciousness”.   Colette Baron-Reid

Life is an ever-changing landscape. There are times when we feel we know every twist and turn of the road ahead, yet it is then that something will come along and shake things up for us. The reason for this is simple. Life is not a static experience, it is raw and beautiful and is to be lived to the full. Sometimes we have to grab on and hold on as hard as we can and wring from it all that is there.

Then there are the times to pause in silent communion and reflect on the world and life around us. Time to see where we are forcing a way through our lives and not flowing along in harmony with our lives, our world. These are the times we feel tired and exhausted; when we feel that everything is against us and nothing is working out the way it should. Fighting against the flow is hard work.

image from footage.shutterstock.com

Have you been able to take a moment and looked at your life? Is it flowing in synchronicity with all that surrounds you, or are you fighting the current and only marking time?  Life is complex, an ever-changing vista and we are given cues to find our way through the rough patches.

It is when things are difficult that we need to take the time to stop, listen to the inner voice of our heart and soul and see where we are out of step with our life. Instead of the tiring fight to force things into the shape you feel they must be, there may be a better way. Perhaps all you need to do is to acknowledge that the current situation doesn’t feel right. You feel out of step with yourself, you feel life is not ‘in flow’.

It is time to take a breath, a really deep breath which gives our racing hearts and minds time to pause. It is perhaps then that we can see it is time to be kind to ourselves and walk away from the struggle today. Tomorrow is just a few hours away and the pause, time to reflect will bring a calm, a clarity and a new sense of purpose.

Tomorrow when we have entered the calm waters and are flowing gently in synchronicity with everything, then that sense of calm will wash away the struggle of yesterday and the ease of flow as we work with life will bring a sense of wonder at our previous struggle.

So take a moment on me and breathe, feel the beauty of the calmness being in flow with your life brings. Enjoy the blessings being in flow will bring.

Blessings, Susan x

image from atelier-ad.blogspot.com     It feels like a never-ending search.

“Home is the place that goes where you go, yet it welcomes you upon your return. Like a dog overjoyed at the door. We’ve missed you is what you hear, no matter how long you’ve been gone.”                                     MICHAEL J. ROSEN, Home

Ever since I came to Australia I have heard people talking about “The Great Australian Dream“,  the dream of course to own ones own home.  As far as dreams go it is totally understandable, though today it is becoming harder than ever to attain.  In reality it was probably one of the reasons my parents wanted to come to Australia all those years ago.  “Australia, The Land of Opportunity”,  the chance to be able to have a home of their own and offer a greater opportunity to their children to have a better life than they felt they could have ‘back in the old country’. Times were changing and the brightness of Australia beckoned to many.

Since nothing ever remains static, dreams change as much as people. The dreams of having your own house back when my parents were young is vastly different to the dreams of today’s generation. The “old” Queenslander, which would have been a wonder in those days has become a huge, four (at least) bedroom mansion. I suppose its all relative really, and who am I to say anyone is right or wrong since I have jumped on the bandwagon yet again. URGH!

As of a few days ago when we decided a move was indicated, we have begun the planning process.  Where to, what sort of house, how much land, the services available, which area to move to, and that’s all before the hard work begins.  Part of the hard work, for me at least, is trudging through so many houses until you find one which ‘fits’. We have a list we always use. It has been honed over time to cover everything we could want or need in the home we want, right down to power points and if there are enough cupboards and drawers in the kitchen – VERY important if you want to be able to do anything.

image from atelier-ad.blogspot.com They really do breed if you take your eyes away from them for a second!

Packing! A necessary evil – at least to me.  Days or weeks of packing boxes, tape, labels, paper cuts from the packing paper, and woe betide you if you forget to correctly label a box!  The very first move I ever made, a pure novice, everything seemed to go wrong.  I forgot to label everything down to the last detail. OK  I forgot to put any labels on the boxes.  I had boxes coming out of my ears in some rooms and none in others and not one in the right room! Everything had to be opened to try to find anything at all, and then move it to its real home. As a result it was hours before we could find something to use to for a drink, and let’s not think of a cup of tea or coffee – the kettle went into hiding! I couldn’t recall what had gone into any of the boxes, it was like a lottery – and there was no winner.  That is just the beginning.  After the unpacking has been done and you have hopefully managed to find ‘homes’ for all your things after they have been carefully washed again, you realise you cannot remember where anything is! I needed tracking devices to locate anything. Now that is an idea – I wonder if anyone knows where I can get some?

That is where I am at this moment, in the process of moving house, of packing boxes, wrapping everything in paper which always cuts my fingers one by one. OH NO! – OH YES!  To this day there are still some things we cannot find. Perhaps when we pack this time we might find them? Who knows. Time is running out and I desperately need to find somewhere to move to, somewhere which ticks off the majority of, if not all the boxes on my list. You know, THE LIST, which, if I can get it right will mean I have found my dream home, the one which fulfils all our needs and from which I will not have to move again.

image from oneplanetimages.com There, I knew it existed somewhere.

So, as you can guess, we’d like a place in the country. It has turned out to be a deal breaker, in fact they seem to be as scarce as hens teeth.  It must be somewhere that we can work from home, so both phone, internet and hopefully mobile access. Not too far from  a post office for mail access. Deciphering real estate jargon makes it even more difficult.  For example, this might be what we are looking for and have seen in the ad .

image from boutique-homes.com

When we get there , whilst charming, this is what we find.  (OK, literary license  has been taken here.)

Really though, the real description might say:

  • “a home with space, it has ‘x’ number of square metres under roof – which means – they have counted all the covered verandahs, car ports (not garages) and any covered walkways or external entertainment areas.   Is it possible to use any of that for a home office?  No way, so what it doesn’t say is the house may be enough for a single person but it has loads of covered areas outside or around it.
  • “it has charm and character” or “a little TLC is needed” – which means – it’s antiquated and may be held up by a few rusty nails. (see above).
  • “close to all amenities” – which means – it’s really on a major road and the constant noise would drive you insane, and deaf!
  • “the bedrooms are ‘spacious’ or ‘generous’ in size – which means – you might be able to fit a small bed in but forget anything close to a double bed unless you want a hernia.
  • “it has air conditioning” – which means – one room has a miniscule and ancient mover of air and the windows open in the rest of the house.
  • “it has 2+ car spaces under lock” – which means – there is  lock on the front gate of the property and a rickety roof over the cars, if you are lucky.
  • “country living at it’s best” – which means – possibly no garbage collection no phone coverage and unlikely to have internet access.

The list can go on and yes, I have chosen extreme examples just for fun, although some of them are not too far wide of the mark.   I don’t need a mansion, although it might be nice, yet I don’t want to spend forever cleaning it.  I really, really would love a place in the country but I have to be able to work from there, so it has to have all the accessories I mentioned.  A creek would be nice, but not so that I will be flooded out if there is a minor shower. I’d prefer not to share my home with poisonous snakes, but I guess I’m a chicken, then again maybe not, I’d certainly be dinner for them!

So what is it that I want which I find so hard to find? What is on my “Bucket List?”

A place with room to breathe, fresh air and somewhere to walk on my property.  Something of a reasonable size I can work from home comfortably in with phone and internet access. Peace and tranquility – oh yes – it would be marvellous to wake up and go to sleep to the sounds of the bush each day.

There is a place out there for me, which meets all the dot points more or less. I know it, I simply need to find it and soon, before the lease expires or I go insane.  I really hate moving.  After this I will only move one more time – to the house I build on acreage which will then have everything I want in it or on it.  It’s all there on my dream board which I look at every morning when I wake up and each night before I go to sleep, so as you can tell, it has been a goal for a while. I want to stay in one place, my idyllic place and put down roots.

My home is my castle, my refuge and my sanctuary. I will be so grateful on the day I find it or build it. I will be eternally grateful to the Universe when this dream comes true.  I’m following my instinct here and know I’m mindful that everything has to happen at the right time.  I will have my dream home with room to breath fresh air, walk in the country, hear the birdsong, perhaps a burbling brook somewhere, where peace and tranquility will soothe my heart and soul and my health will recover and there is time and space for my soul to grow.

So, if you know just the place for me, just let me know, I would be so very grateful.

image from sothebysrealty.com Yes, it really does exist somewhere.

“Do you know how hard it is to make a home?… That’s something that a woman does from inside herself. You do it in the face of all sorts of opposition. Husbands are very appreciative when it works out well. But they’re not that anxious to help. It’s understandable. They don’t know how.”
